This involves filling out an online form (see link below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to information about your work, you will need a <strong>proposal for the doctoral committee<\/strong> to complete the form. Please discuss possible members with your primary supervisor <em>in advance<\/em>. We have summarized the requirements for the composition of the committee in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgw-brandenburg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/LeitfadenKommission_Promotion.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guidelines<\/a>. We need the names and contact details (e-mail) of all committee members so that we can inform them about all necessary tasks and steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You can submit your application to start your PhD here:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgw-brandenburg.de\/en\/opening-the-phd-procedure\/form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Online form to open the PhD procedure<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have completed and submitted the form, you will receive an e-mail with the completed application as a PDF file. Please print out the application, sign it, and send it to us by email together with all other documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Checklist for Submitting Documents<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Please submit all other documents listed in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgw-brandenburg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/ChecklisteEroeffnung.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">checklist<\/a> digitally by e-mail, together with the signed application form. The PhD Office will then check your documents and ask you to submit the documents in paper form (certified if necessary) to the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can provide you with a letter for the application for an <strong>extended certificate of good conduct<\/strong>. The extended certificate of good conduct can be submitted later if the documents are otherwise complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have submitted your documents to open your doctoral procedure at the FGW, your digital thesis will be checked by the PhD office using the <strong>plagiarism software<\/strong> PlagAware, and we will then give you the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgw-brandenburg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/StellungnahmePlagiatsbericht.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opportunity to comment<\/a>. Due to technical reasons, we must ask you not to check your thesis yourself with PlagAware beforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Further Procedure: Initiation of the PhD procedure at the FGW<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your documents will then be submitted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgw-brandenburg.de\/en\/faculty\/structure\/faculty-committees\/\">PhD committee<\/a>. The committee will review your application and, if approved, issue a recommendation for approval to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgw-brandenburg.de\/en\/faculty\/structure\/faculty-council\/\">faculty council<\/a>. The faculty council will also select the members of the doctoral commission and the persons responsible for reviewing your application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the reviews, the doctoral commission will determine a preliminary grade and set a <strong>date for your oral defense<\/strong> together with you. After a two-week period during which your dissertation is available for inspection at the doctoral office, your public oral defense will take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: The PhD office must send out <strong>invitations to the oral defense<\/strong> two weeks in advance. Please send us your invitation based on this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgw-brandenburg.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/EinladungDisputation.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">template<\/a> in good time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The doctoral committee determines the <strong>overall result<\/strong> of your work based on the results of your dissertation and defense.
