Ethics at Play: A Roadmap for the Development of Serious Games for the Mental Health of Young People

Digital gamified interventions are increasingly being discussed as a solution for young people’s mental health problems. The talk presents the prototype of an empirically grounded, principle-based ethics roadmap that provides ethical guidance for developers as an interactive, adaptable tool.

It is being developed as part of the Horizon Europe project ASPbelong, which is developing a collaborative augmented reality app to promote mental health among young people. The roadmap contains explanations of key ethical principles and examples of good practice in three areas: (i) the role and responsibility of (co-)developers, (ii) the design of game mechanisms and (iii) utilisation issues.

About the DiMEN-Fellowship

The DiMEN Fellowship aims to give outstanding young researchers the freedom to explore new topics in digital health ethics. In doing so, fellows are free to choose the goals of their stay. Be it the completion of a chapter for a new book, the first steps towards a new topic area, the search for new cooperation partners for the next proposal or the proposal itself. As part of their fellowship, DiMEN Fellows give a public lecture, reporting on their work during their stay in Potsdam or Tübingen.
