The effect of consistently lowering LDL cholesterol has been evidence-based for more than 30 years and is anchored in numerous guidelines. Nevertheless, the substances available today are used only hesitantly or in inadequate doses. Not infrequently, the reluctant attitude of patients is also the limiting factor. These shortcomings must be minimized in regional care networks.

The effect of consistently lowering LDL cholesterol has been evidence-based for more than 30 years and is anchored in numerous guidelines. Nevertheless, the substances available today are used only hesitantly or in inadequate doses. Not infrequently, the reluctant attitude of patients is also the limiting factor.
These shortcomings must be minimized in regional supply networks. One example is the “Jena on Target” initiative. New insights into lipid metabolism and associated developments in pharmacotherapy now open up the possibility of a differentiated treatment strategy. The practical implementation can be successful if, with the involvement of the patients, physicians in branch offices and clinics, in lipid outpatient clinics and rehabilitation facilities cooperate.
In Brandenburg, under the auspices of the Lipid League, colleagues from the individual regions have agreed to optimize the therapy of lipid metabolism disorders. The Lipid Initiative Brandenburg e. V. could provide a forum for implementation.
